Homes needed for these dogs

There is a very pretty black and tan female German shepherd at the West Plains pound (about 125 miles southeast of Spriingfield, MO) who is out of time. This girl, who is only about 18 months old, was abandoned by her former owner, who literally left her to starve...when found, she was eating weeds and leaves to try to survive.
She is on the small side for the breed, maybe 50-55 pounds, and very friendly. The ACO needs her out of there, because this is a very small pound with very little cage space, and her hold time is up.

You can see her pictures at

(This will NOT work as a link - you have to do a copy-and-paste into your browser's address bar, being sure to get the second line, and then it'll work fine.)

Call the ACO, James Collins, at 417-255-1860

The pull fee is only $20, which includes only the dog.

Unfortunately, I am in Florida this week and can't help. Please don't let her be gassed... She's a nice dog.

Subject: [topekaanimaltalk] KCK Animal Shelter needs HELP!!!!

I spoke with Dawn at the KCK animal shelter.  She said THEY ARE PUTTING DOWN APPROXIMATELY 100 ANIMALS PER WEEK there.  She said they will definitely work with rescue groups to get animals pulled before being PTS.  The KCK Shelter is located just off I-70 and Park Avenue (just east of I-635 interchange). Address is 3301 Park Ave. Their phone # is 913-321-1445.  A rescue group can pull any animal (need to show a rescue license??) but have to pay $51 for a female & $41 for males to cover cost of spay/neuter & rabies vaccination, this price is the same for an adoption if out of KCK city limits.  Hours are 10-4 Monday thru Friday, not open on weekends. Web site is

As I stated earlier, This shelter has by far the worst adoption rates in the KC area.  Any animal who is brought there has a virtual death sentence.  PLEASE TAT FAMILY ~ urge anyone who is willing to adopt and/or foster to visit this facility.  Animals are given little or no chance of making it out of there alive.  We must do something to help them!!!

Kerri Fowlkes

Hi All I need your help. You may have seen this on the news. My friend was riding her bike on 182nd Holmes Rd. her dogs followed her and they were heading back to her barn when one of her dogs (Sadie) got in the road. The car stopped in time but the car behind them ran in to that car and the first car hit Sadie. My friend ran to her dog and was holding her in her arms when a third car, that no one is sure which way it came from, hit my friend and the dog. They both are in critical condition at the hospital. The other Dog (Dooley) ran in all the confusion. Dooley is a shepherd mix he is black and tan with one ear that stands up and one that droops over. He is a neutered male that is very sweet. I pray that he does not end up out in the county where the sheriff will tell who ever calls..."just shoot the dog."

The other thing that is of great importance is that the person that hit them never stopped and the family is offering a $5,000.00 reward for information leading to the arrest of this person. Please call the Cass County Sheriff department about the car or person and please call me if the dog is see in the area or in the Belton City limits.

Thanks for any help you can give. Debbie   816-318-1222
