Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. Cinco de Mayo 2018 occurs on Saturday, May 5. A relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations.
I was looking at the calendar and noticed that Buddy’s birthday is coming soon. He came home May 5th, 2015. Some people call that Cinco de Mayo but around here we celebrate Cinco de Buddy.
Buddy has been through a lot in his life. He was “rescued” and then left alone in a back yard for nine years. His owner was eventually admitted to the Alzheimer’s unit of a nursing home and no one thought about what might happen to him. A neighbor came by to feed him periodically and there he sat alone in the backyard of an empty house. Abandoned cats were inside the house.
We heard about the cats and went to investigate. That is when we discovered Buddy and when we asked what was to become of him, no one knew. We brought Buddy home (and all of the cats left in the house).
Buddy tested positive for Heartworm. It was bad. The vet asked us what we wanted to do but he already knew the answer. It was a rough road to recovery for Buddy and he’s had his share of obstacles along the way but he is loved and he is very happy, something that he had not experienced before he met us.
Celebrate Cinco de Buddy with us this year. It’s Buddy’s third birthday with WarmFuzzy’s and I know Buddy will appreciate hearing from you. Send cards and gifts to Buddy c/o WarmFuzzy’s.
