The Budster loves hugs and so does the Duchess. Lots and lots of hugs. Mumford, not so much. Hugs are scary for her but she likes having her ears and chest and sometimes her tummy scritched. Hosie, the curly kitty, closes his eyes and purrs when we hug him. We spend a great deal of our time petting and hugging our fur babies because we love them. Hugs are magical things where two hearts touch and beat in unison. A hug has healing properties for both parties.
When it comes to people, I don’t like anyone hugging me except a member of my immediate family and I don’t like strangers touching me at all. It’s not a germ thing or a phobia, I just don’t think it’s proper to be that intimate with someone you don’t know. Yes, a hug is an intimate act. Now that old school person who’s already not a fan of the touchy feely thing seemed to be getting along okay until someone went and sprinkled drug-resistant killer bacteria everywhere. There are now killer bugs in the lakes and streams, in hospitals, in our food, on doorknobs and elevator buttons, so yeah, lately it is becoming more of a germ thing. In the words of Howie Mandell, “Here’s the deal, don’t touch me.” Seriously.
The reason for rampant nastiness in our world is sin. God told man to be good stewards of His creation yet man has intentionally destroyed it for money and power. Scientists and corporations play god with our health and food. They tweak this and twiddle that, they create sprays, pastes, creams, pills, fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides and if that’s not enough they squirt mystery juice into our veins to prevent something natural or fixing a problem they created by breaking what is natural. How many cases of flesh-eating bacteria were there one hundred years ago? Aids? How about the Zika virus? Here’s an idea, why don’t we leave nature alone?
God told us what we can eat, how we should live and what not to touch. He is very specific on what is clean and what is unclean but we no longer care. We have abandoned God’s laws.
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
So, what is considered clean and what is unclean? Read Leviticus 11: bit.ly/1ThyKue Do it now. It won’t take you long.
Then read this: bit.ly/1oYonia
Most of what our society consumes is unclean. People today rabidly defend their unclean, sinful lifestyles. Why then is anyone surprised that we are now more diseased ridden than at any other time in the history of man? If man wants to embrace the unclean, he will pay the price.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
20 For you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.
1 Corinthians 3:17
If any man defiles the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.
If your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (and it is) and you are living and treating it accordingly (and you should be), is it not also your responsibility to avoid touching the unclean thing? If you know certain foods to be contaminated and certain items to be germ laden, don’t you have a responsibility to avoid them?
God is calling us to return to Him, to a life of holiness and purity.
If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored; If you remove unrighteousness far from your tent.
2 Corinthians 6:17-18
17 Therefore “come out from their midst, and be separate,” says the Lord, “and touch no unclean thing, and I will welcome you,
18 and I will be a father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters,” says the All-Powerful Lord.
Hugging is one thing, embracing that which is unclean is another whether it is an object or an action. Imagine how healthier this world would be if we all cleaned up our act and returned to God.
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
