Sunrise Sunset

I woke up this morning with a song in my head, Sunrise, Sunset from Fiddler on the roof
And it made me was sad. Perhaps melancholy is a better word.

(Tevye)
Is this the little girl I carried,
Is this the little boy at play?

I thought of Ruger and Annie and Duchess as little bitty baby puppies, so cute and adorable.

(Golde)
I don’t remember growing older,
When did they?

In my mind, I saw them as seniors. Ruger and Annie are now gone and Duchess is old and sweet.

(Tevye)
When did she get to be a beauty,
When did he grow to be so tall?

Through the years I would pet them as their loving eyes would gaze into mine.

(Golde)
Wasn’t it yesterday when they were small?

…and a longing filled my heart.

(Men)
Sunrise, sunset (x2),
Swiftly flow the days.

(Women)
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers,
Blossoming even as we gaze.

(Everyone)
Sunrise, sunset (x2),
Swiftly fly the years,
One season following another,
Laiden with happiness and tears.

It seems like yesterday we brought our babies home. A sunrise, a sunset, one seaon and then another. They grew old but so did we.

My mother sent me a picture in email a couple of days ago. It was a snap of me she took while watching an old VCR tape of me doing an interview on television. I don’t remember doing that particular interview and barely remembered looking as young as I did in the picture. Not too bad looking for a young man, if I may say so myself. 🙂 My mom might easily be singing this song, Sunrise, Sunset, Swiftly fly the years. If you are reading this Mom, I didn’t mean to make you cry, as I know you will.

I cry when I hear this song. I think about our fur kids. I think about our kids who are grown and gone and then I wonder how the Father feels.

Does He sing…

“When did she get to be a beauty,
When did he grow to be so tall?
Wasn’t it yesterday when they were small?”

1 Corinthians 13:11
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. But when I became an adult, I set aside childish ways.

God watched you grow and He is proud of what you have become.

“Sunrise, sunset (x2),
Swiftly fly the years,
One season following another,
Laiden with happiness and tears.”

When you look back on life and think of all that you have been through, remember that God went through it all with you. He experienced what you did and more because of you.

There are other appropriate lyrics in the song.

“What words of wisdom can I give them,
How can I help to ease their way?…”

God has given us so much to help us on our journey.

Psalm 119:105
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

John 14:16
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

and the song continues…

“Now they must learn from one another,
Day by day.”

Proverbs 27:17
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

He gave us each other to help each other, to comfort each other and learn from each other.

And our story is not over yet.

(Perchik)
They look so natural together.

(Hodel)
Just like two newlyweds should be.

(Perchik and hodel)
Is there a canopy in store for me?

We are the bride and Jesus is the bridegroom and one day there will be a glorious wedding feast.

Revelation 22:17
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Sunrise, sunset (x2),
Swiftly fly the years,
One season following another,
Laden with happiness,
And tears

Galatians 6:9
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Thank you God for the memories, the trials, the heartache, pain and the great joy that I have experienced in this life. Most of all, thank you all that you do for me and for being with me every step of the way.
